Wimborne Travel Clinic and Rabies Prevention

Wimborne Travel Clinic provides the full range of vaccinations for travellers together with personalised advice. As part of our ethos we support an organisation called Global Alliance for Rabies Control in their work to prevent, vaccinate and research rabies through their ‘End Rabies Now’ campaign.

For every ‘course’ of rabies vaccination we undertake we donate £2.00 which is the amount required to vaccinate an animal against rabies.

  In 2018 we donated £222 to GARC.

Below is some information about rabies both shocking and inspirational.

An estimated 60,000 people still die from rabies every year, that is one every 9 minutes.

The disease is present across all continents except Antarctica and rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear.

Canine rabies is a forgotten disease of the poor where nobody survives to tell the tale.

In poor countries post exposure treatment may be unaffordable and inaccessible (costing $40 with average daily incomes of only $2).

Vaccinating at least 70% of dogs can eliminate human rabies deaths and is the most cost effective method.

At the global conference on rabies elimination in 2015, a common goal of zero human deaths from canine rabies by 2030 was agreed by the World Health Organization, World Organisation for Animal Health, UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the Global Alliance for Rabies Control.
